Rudolph turns 50 and I\u2019m still a kid\u2026and other observations<\/a><\/h1>\n

In front of me as I type these words is\u00a0Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer<\/em>. \u00a0I never miss it. \u00a0It has been playing on CBS as long as I can remember. \u00a0 I never tire of watching it. \u00a0There are so many elements of Rudolph we can relate to. \u00a0Misfits\u2026we know them. \u00a0Some of us are them. \u00a0Friends\u2026we know them. \u00a0Some of us are them. \u00a0Heroes\u2026we know them. \u00a0We are all a hero to some one at some time. \u00a0I believe that. \u00a0Weather\u2026we all know it. \u00a0Some of us love snow and some of us don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Every year for many years and in some cases, recently, there are a few other Christmas shows I try to get around to looking at when they come through my living room.<\/p>\n

Frosty the Snowman<\/em>\u00a0is my second favorite. \u00a0The fastest thirty minutes on television. \u00a0I still get upset when Frosty melts in the hot-house. \u00a0That is just plain sad\u2026pitiful\u2026not right. \u00a0 Thank God he comes back to life in good time. \u00a0Had he not come back the first time I saw it I would have needed therapy I am sure. \u00a0I took my babysitter killing over on me when I was five better than watching Frosty melt!<\/p>\n

The Little Drummer Boy is another show I try to watch every year.<\/p>\n

In recent years there is a movie my family and I have been watching on the Hallmark Channel when it shows up. \u00a0The Christmas Card<\/em>\u00a0is a movie about an Army fellow that gets a card in the mail while he is deployed to the Middle East. \u00a0He takes his card and tracks down its origins and we are entertained by the twists and turns of a predictable story that is still pretty cool\u2026not unlike Rudolph and Frosty.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t forget\u00a0A Christmas Carol<\/em>. \u00a0I like the Reginald Owen 1938 version the best. \u00a0I have a copy of it. \u00a0I try to find it on TV. \u00a0God Bless Us\u2026Everyone.<\/p>\n

There are others\u2026.many others.<\/p>\n

Along with television there are songs. \u00a0I enjoy listening to the Christmas Songs on the radio. \u00a0One station in Louisville plays them constantly right now. \u00a0I tune for a while every day.<\/p>\n

Carrie, my dear wife, \u00a0and I have a simple wooden Nativity\u2026a great manger scene\u2026 on display in our living room 365 days a year. \u00a0I never tire of looking at that either\u2026especially that. \u00a0God Bless Us\u2026Everyone.<\/p>\n

Songs\u2026one of my favorite seasonal tunes is\u00a0The Christmas Song<\/em>\u2026you know\u2026the one that talks about chestnuts roasting on an open fire and all.<\/p>\n
